How Quitting Alcohol Led Me to Gut Health, Beans & Fiber

Consistently creating content this year has given me a rearview mirror I’ve never really had before. For going on seven months now, I’ve found a rhythm: post 2-4 videos/day on TikTok, follow wherever my hobbies and personal interests take me, and then recap the biggest thing that stood out in my life with these monthly blog posts. And I mean, it’s wild. I can actually look back and see how one interest led to another. How a random question became a rabbit hole. And how the things I thought I was posting about at the beginning of the year have evolved into something much bigger.

This has been my personal evolution this year, encouraged by feedback, viral posts, and people on TikTok pushing me deeper into each topic: On January 1, I quit drinking and committed to all 365 days of 2026. A couple months later, I started learning about gut health and realized I’ve probably never had a truly healthy gut as an adult while regularly consuming alcohol. That led me to start researching what actually helps repair the gut, which somehow brought me back to beans. I started eating beans every day, had bloodwork done after 70+ days, and saw extremely low inflammation, better cholesterol, and improved markers. I can’t claim beans caused all of it, but the results definitely encouraged me to keep going.

For a healthy gut, two things matter a lot: removing alcohol and eating plenty of fiber. Giving up booze somehow led me down this path and made me realize I need to completely change the way I eat. And now I want to bring other people along for the ride.

I’m currently devouring Fiber Fueled by Dr. Bulsiewicz AKA @theguthealthmd which is an incredible read that covers a ton of the modern research connecting gut health to immunity, inflammation, metabolism, weight management, and overall health.

I’m not surprised this is where it led, but it’s definitely not something I ever could have predicted becoming interested in. Without taking that first step toward full sobriety (and honestly, without posting about it on TikTok), I probably never would have discovered this connection. Or maybe an older version of me just wouldn’t have cared.

Here’s where I’m at now: I want to find a niche within a niche and help people understand three core principles:

  1. Regular alcohol consumption (even moderate drinking) is completely at odds with a fully optimized gut.
  2. Gut health is huge, and the research increasingly supports just how connected it is to our overall health.
  3. Fiber is essential, and a predominantly plant-based diet is the best way to get more of it.
Full disclosure: I still eat meat, just less of it, with a much more diverse diet overall.

If you want to join me as I continue this journey, follow me on TikTok and we’ll figure this thing out together. The more I learn, the more I love where I’m at in life right now. And I hope to inspire more people to change the direction of their lives. There’s a level of health, energy, and joy available to us that I think most people never fully experience. I want more people to find it.
